What happens when I hit the daily consent limit?

How limits work

Each plan has a daily consent limit that applies across all your sites combined:

Free — 5,000 consents/day (~150,000/month)
Pro — 20,000 consents/day (~600,000/month)
Agency — 50,000 consents/day (~1.5M/month)
Max — 750,000 consents/day (~22.5M/month)

💡Rule of thumb: 1 consent ≈ 1 new unique visitor seeing the banner for the first time. Return visitors who already have a consent decision stored don't count toward the limit.

What happens when you hit the limit

Your visitors are not affected — the banner keeps working. What stops is recording new consents in your consent log for the rest of that day:

✓ The banner still appears to new visitors, and their choice still applies (cookies, Google Consent Mode)
✓ Visitors who already decided are completely unaffected
✗ New consents are not saved to your consent log or reports until midnight UTC
✓ At midnight UTC the counter resets and recording resumes automatically

⚠️Your consent log is your proof of consent. If you rely on complete logs (for example for audits), upgrade before you regularly reach the limit.

Is hitting the limit actually a problem?

Depends on your situation:

Personal blog or small business site: 5,000/day is roughly 150,000 new EU visitors per month. Most small sites never get close.
Sites that need complete audit logs: stay well under the limit so every consent is recorded. Consider upgrading proactively.
Agency with multiple client sites: The limit applies across all sites. One viral campaign on a client site can use up the whole day's recording allowance. Agency plan gives 50,000/day.

Frequently asked questions

Does the limit apply to returning visitors?

No. Only new visitors who haven't seen the banner before count toward the limit. Return visitors with a stored consent decision are served from their browser cookie — they don't hit the API.

Can I see when I'm close to the limit?

Agency and Max plan users can see daily counts in the analytics dashboard. We don't currently send automatic alerts when approaching the limit — that's on the roadmap.

What if I have a viral day and exceed the limit once?

Recording pauses for that day only and resumes at midnight UTC automatically. The banner keeps working throughout. If it happens regularly, upgrade your plan.
